Microsoft realized how profitable and groundbreaking Bruce's software was and bought him out. In fact, when its creator, Bruce Artwick released it in the very early 1980s-it was called (BAO- Bruce Artwick Organization)"SubLogic Flight Simulator" and it opened up a never-before-seen world of General Aviation to the masses- those of us who dreamed of flying an airplane by ourselves, but sure as hell couldn't afford it.but with a Personal Computer we could. It is very appealing, beautiful to look at, and stimulating to work with. Its main focus is providing an entertaining and stimulating environment that appeals to the largest marketable demographics. If your primary focus of getting a flight sim is for entertainment, then MSFS 2020 is a better choice. In short, if you're serious about learning to fly, and want to use a resource that can actually aid you (and in its professional version is an FAA-approved PC training tool) X-Plane 11 (and X-Plane 12 in the coming months) are a solid bet. It is a tool than can be entertaining, however. It's very much not marketed as a primary source of entertainment. X-Plane is more focused on the real aspect of aerodynamics and flight, rather than the ideal aspect of what the "everyman" believes it ought to be, based opon a dearth of aeronautical knowledge and fanciful misconceptions and winsome imagination. X-Plane was and still is an actual Simulator, in that the core of its functionality is based on actual physics-based data of an aircraft moving through space, and the physical effects that moving through that space have on that airplane. Unfortunately it appears that that sentiment hasn't changed much over the years, not that (knowing him) I had expected it to. So basically X-Plane's initial purpose was for it to be used as a Personal Computer- based training aid to help Austin (Meyer) practice and sharpen his real-world IFR skills/proficiency at a price much less expensive than what was offered at the flying schools and flight clubs during his college days, and scenery priority was not terribly high on his coding list. When flying under IFR scenery is not a priority, your six-pack instruments are. One of many reasons that X-Plane has scenery inferior to other PC "Flight Simulators" is because when Austin created it, it was designed as an aid to help him gain proficiency toward (obtaining) his IFR endorsement. This is targeted at re-selling and guerilla u/LimE_CrimE, it depends (I believe) on just how hard-core you are about learning the skills and craft of how to fly a real airplane.
